In his first book, Tallahassee Face Punch, Franklin takes the reader along for the ride through a seven-week training camp for a mixed martial arts (MMA) fight. Franklin has competed in grappling and MMA, and has trained in gyms as far afield as Moldova and Kazakhstan, Thailand and Iceland. He played college football and rugby and has summited peaks in the USA and abroad. His humanitarian work includes experiences in Poland, Romania, and Iraq. He has cornered MMA, boxing, Muay Thai, and kickboxing matches, and is a coach at Train Fight Win in Tallahassee, Florida.

Franklin has published stories on diving and travel, in addition to academic articles and book chapters on archaeology. His written work has been translated into Spanish and Russian. His photography has been featured in Atlanta magazine, Dive Training, and U.S. Airways Magazine.
